Battlestar Galactica: Caprica

Warning: Spoilers ahead.
bromance2The beginning of a beautiful bromance? Perhaps not.

With Battlestar Galactica coming to a close in Hitchhiker style, Sci Fi (or is it SyFy) were quick to notice the vacuum in the fans’ lives, one that they have decided to temporarily fill with the pilot for the upcoming Caprica series, a prequel with events leading up to the destruction of the Colonies.. After a few years in development hell, Ronald D. Moore and company give us a finished product that is just as impressive as the prototype Cylon created by Daniel Graystone, the brilliant scientist who gets involved in a bromance gone bad with Joseph Adams, a Mafia-connected defense attorney. Of course, there’s more to Caprica than that, as it is a tale of the dangers of the unwise uses of technology and religious extremism, issues that resonate with us today.

Battlestar Galactica: Hitchiker’s Guide Edition

The Battlestar Galactica finale is properly entitled “Daybreak II” and it will be available on Hulu this coming Saturday. In the meantime, here’s Part 1 for your viewing pleasure and to get you up to speed.

I have sufficiently cleared the spoiler zone, but I’m a little late for my taste. However, if you haven’t seen “Daybreak II” on live broadcast on Sci-Fi Channel, on DVR, or on iTunes, then deal with it. You can always watch BSG’s finale 6 days from now.

One of my favorite shows has come to an end. Unfortunately, so has a personal blogging tradition over the couple of years. Thankfully, my blog isn’t completely dedicated to BSG, or else I’d be obligated to follow up on all cast and creative staff of BSG in their new endeavors.

ThePete posted his reaction to “Daybreak II” yesterday and he wasn’t too thrilled. As a creative exercise, he started writing his own finale last week and it is a good read!  I half-hoped to see a blog reaction from Brian, but I’ve already seen his reaction on Facebook.We both agree that the ending was very “Hitchhiker’s Guide.”. Throughout the series, the Fleet could have used a Hitchhiker’s Guide to get them through the Galaxy before they plotted their half-baked trek to Earth.

Battlestar Galactica: Islanded in a Stream of Stars

Listen to Deadpan Chick catch us all up on last week’s BSG episode.

There is my promised BSG post. Only bummer is two more episodes and the show is finis. C’est tout.

There are still numerous Sixes and Eights in their sexy worker uniform patching up the insides of the Galactica with Cylon tar. No Tyrol this time overseeing the joint workforce. Instead, it’s an anonymous deck chief who’s not enthusiastic to work with the Cylons but is later impressed that a honey-blonde Six gives her life to save everyone else when there’s a hull breach in their work area.

How come there aren’t any Leobens in the sexy male version of the Cylon worker outfits?

Adama soon accepts that it may be the end for the Galactica. The new council of ship captains do as well, but most of them wish to cannibalize the old ship. Adama, however, seems to have other plans for it, which should play out next week. Perhaps we’ll find out more about how Kara Thrace is the Harbinger of Death. The Hybrids, which now include Sam Anders, keep saying it. Some Cylon algorithm keeps pointing them to it.

Battlestar Galactica: Someone To Watch Over Me

Here in the teaser, Tyrol fails to convince his fellow Final Fivers to influence the course of Cylon justice for Boomer.

Tyrol is a fool for love and not in an endearing way. He may have married Cally and settled into being her husband and the father of a baby that wasn’t even his, may have even been Tory’s lover in their previous Earthly life, but he’s carried a torch for Boomer for a long time. Needless to say, the newly imprisoned Eight takes advantage of his feelings for her. As for Starbuck, a piano man digs up some unresolved childhood issues and a piece of the mystery regarding the Final Five.


To catch up, hear the deadpan chick narrate the episode under two minutes. No, she doesn’t say “goo bath” this time either.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock

Warning: spoilers ahead. To catch up, watch the vid with the deadpan narrator. Unfortunately, she doesn’t say “Goo Bath” in this one. So say we all!

The return of Ellen is not quite the happy homecoming, especially for Saul Tigh and Caprica Six. However, Sharon Valerii receives less than a warm welcome with Adma ordering her thrown in the brig. Tyrol decides to give the Battlestar an internal goo bath, and there are plenty of Sixes and Eights to help spread the Cylon tar over the fractured bulkheads. Concerning Baltar’s flock, he finds himself replaced with a new apostle. Also, we get to see Head Six for the first time in a while.

After her resurrection, Ellen Tigh learns that hell is other people. In her case, hell is another person in the form of Cavil and we learn that his name is John. Another thing we learn is that Ellen is indeed mother of the Eight Models. She created Cavil, who behaves more like a petulant child than he does a late fifty-something/early sixty something cynical man. Which then bring us to some other issues.

Last week’s episode was the quiet before the storm. The little bitch, AKA Gaeta, was stirring up some shit after Starbuck called him a gimp. Behind the closed mess hall door, he sowed the seeds of his mutiny. Then there’s  Tom Zarek’s, whose  knack for community organizing definitely involves exploiting Gaeta’s insecurities and desire for power. As for “The Oath,” the stakes are high and the drama is intense as civil war breaks out aboard the Galactica.

Battlestar Galactica: A Disquiet Follows My Soul

God is dead? Not yet, as Baltar goes on a disturbing rant in his sermon.

Last week’s BSG episode opened the Final half season with a bang. “A Disquiet That Follows My Soul” has less immediate dramatic impact; instead, it’s a a deeply brooding story that sets up events to come. With the disillusionment following the discovery of Earth nuked with little sign of life, Roslin tunes out her presidency and her health, Tom Zarek blocks Adama‘s efforts to deepen the alliance with the dissident Cylons, and Gaeta becomes more and more of a malcontent. On an ancilliary note, Baltar‘s preaching takes a much more cynical turn.
