Drip, Drip, Drip

Photo 171

This morning, I found this lovely newsbit on Twitter: Some coffeehouses in NYC are pulling the plug on laptop users. Then, I had some Twitter conversation with Brian and Kyle* on the issue and then some more reactions on Facebook, as I posted the article link to my “wall.” For the past few years, I have made decisions about which coffee houses I go to based on if they offer WIFI. Supersize Me on the McLatté

I’m not too surprised by the turn of events described in the Wall Street Journal as McDonald’s vies for a share of the upscale coffee market. Starbuck’s has created drive-tru’s and egg muffins to create convenience for customers on the go (very McDonald’s), so it was only about time the supersize fast food chain tried to create better coffee and up its image. McDonald’s as a corporation has created a business model emulated by other fast food chains and even other corporations, so it is interesting that they are now stealing another kind of model. Ray Kroc would be proud.

Somehow, I don’t think we’ll be able to have the perverse pleasure of mispronouncing “grande” at McDonald’s.

I Crush Their Heads

If you’ve watched the Kids in the Hall, then you’re familiar with the Head Crusher skit. During Pride weekend, I got some head crushing pics. Kerry crushes my head in the left pic; however, I don’t get to return the favor as he proceeds to crush his own head.

I get crushed Kerry crushes his own head

These two were done way before pride, where I crushed the heads of people in coffee shops: anonymous Wi-Fi user (top) at Twiggs, and Gigio, co-proprietor of Sole Luna in Downtown San Diego’s Cortez Hill neighborhood (bottom).
