Public Service Announcement

As a YouTube user, I have had my share of viewing too many videos filmed in people’s bedrooms. Before using this wonderful website, I’ve seen too many chambres à coucher et lits in my lifetime, but that comes with being a gay man.

Come on, people. Get a little more inventive with your locations.

This, BTW, was recorded in Balboa Park.

Don’t Go to College

Scott asked me if I had any words of wisdom to offer on my birthday and here’s my response. Jaylen delivers the punchline.

I think I have said something like this before.

Filmed on the ShindoCam

Here is one my first vids created on the ShindoCam. I met up with a few friends at the Burger Lounge in Kensington and here’s a very small part of what’s taped. My friend Scott did the camerawork.

After this little shindig, Scott and I saw Control, the biopic on Ian Curtis, at Ken Cinema.

Vintage ShindoTV: The University Years

I thought my website on the University server was lost forever. Naturally, after I graduated, my computer computer account was deleted a year later. Not that I really cared, but some of my writing files were on that incarnation of ShindoTV, and recreating those files can be a bitch. I don’t like to type things over if I don’t have to. Unfortunately, I don’t have a secretary so I really don’t have a choice in the matter. I found all my fears and anxieties were unfounded — there’s an internet archive that keeps track of most of what’s put on the web.

Here is the archive for my website on the university server.

Here’s the mirror site on my personal computer account during the university years.

Someday, this blog will be stored in the Borgified web archive. I remember Seven of Nine saying something about when a Borg dies, they live on the collective memory, so that what I feel has happened to my dead websites.

Click on the links if you want to see the early millenium models of ShindoTV. Better yet, enter in your web addresses into the Internet Archive.

Resplendence

Pictured is my Master’s Thesis Resplendence. I’m not too crazy about my two middle names being on the thesis (I even tried leaving the space blank in the paperwork).

Included is a little sneak peak. Resplendence is a story about a young man in a mental hospital who finds salvation in his obsession with the Gold Lady, the ultimate Superstar. Here are some images and text, both in landscape format.

Though I have posted some things from it on the other ShindoTV, here is the blog version. There will be tons of images and text, but there will also be features such as rants from Benny (the protagonist) and the Gold Lady manifestation of the week.

Stay tuned… Resplendence is a presentation of ShindoTV.

Collages

Here are a couple of collages I did, circa 2001:
Collage
Untitled.
This collage contains several newspaper headlines, fragments of newpapers, and a journal fragment where I scribbled some observations of an Ann Hamilton installation. This was originally the cover of an 11′x17 sketchbook I used as a journal a few years ago. It now sits safely in a frame.

La Vision Celeste Des Horloges
La Vision Celeste Des Horloges

The title translates to The Heavenly Vision of the Clocks. I went through an book on old daguerreotypes at SDSU’s library, found the images of the man and the clocks, photocopied them, and arranged them in an image that evokes Saint Paul having the heavenly vision.

Second Interview on Best Gay Blogs

This is a shout-out to Chris, whose column is posted in Best Gay Blogs, and a shameless plug for myself (because he interviewed me). Chris has a bi-weekly feature on photobloggers, and since I occasionally post photos here on ShindoTV, I qualify as one. His choice of photos to include with the interview were very good: the I-805 bridge over Mission Valley and the peach tree in Balboa Park. He also posted the mugshot above to give his readers an idea what I look like. That, like most Internet profile pics, was a selfer, but I don’t have the obvious arm angles.

Chris has done his homework when it comes to ShindoTV. He quotes my copy from the “traditional website” and his introduction says it all:

This week’s Photobloggers features Shinichi Evans, a blogger from southern California whose writings touch on a variety of topics from literature to cautionary visions of uppity Evangelicals and the occasional fantasy sequence featuring Tyra Banks making the short trip off the deep end. Photography adds the visual punch to memoir, rants, video, podcasting, and … Bjork?

In his own words, Shinichi — Shindo — says: I enjoy art. I also enjoy literature. For the longest time, these two interests seemed mutually exclusive. But are they? At ShindoTV, text and image co-exist.

Check out the interview, and keep checking to see who else Chris profiles for Best Gay Blogs.

"Why Blog" on Best Gay Blogs

Haley Walsh has an interview posted on Best Gay Blogs, and I’m one of three bloggers interviewed and the other two are Morgan and Camper English. Three gay bloggers, and none of us are the same in our content or our purposes. Check it out.

I’ve mentioned Chris‘s and Brian‘s blogs in the interview as examples of blogs I like. On Best Gay Blogs, there is a featured interview with Chris. They’re smart, they’re funny, and I just like their posts.

For non-gay blogs I like, I mentioned Joshua Minton‘s (who has a creative writing and commentary blog) and Murphy J. Stillwater (whose blog centers on commentary).

For anything else I said, read the interview.
