Support Your Public Library, Wherever It Is

I came across this public service announcement for the New York Public Library, which is awesome. It’s wonderful to see the famous and fabulous shout out the library system of New York City. It’s great that the A-listers shout it out for the New York Public Library, but other library systems all over the country need support. In a cash-strapped California, where the State has no money and threatens to take funds from the counties and cities, making sure that the libraries keep going is even more of a necessity.

Long Hot Summer


Paul Weller‘s odd, bromantic approach to a “Long Hot Summer” in the Style Council video from the 1980′s.

I know it’s hotter in some other parts of the country, but I’m finding the heat to be unbearable, especially with the recent humidity in San Diego. I’ve been teaching at the language school in the mornings, get to work in an old high-rise with my classes, but there’s no air conditioning to keep me cool. Office-casual attire is expected. That, and the heat leave me really drained.

Sue the Bastards!

On the surface, this woman should be my hero. She’s a David who has taken on the crass Goliath of the education industry. After all, schools, especially private ones, seem to promise the jobs of one’s dreams. Trina Thompson, however, has failed to procure hers, even after getting a degree and working with Monroe College‘s Career Services. What is a frustrated Oleanna of an alumna to do? Sue the bastards!
