Even with my unconventional hours of teaching, I don’t have time to tune in to Oprah. This past Wednesday, she interviewed Ted Haggard, nellie closet queen and defrocked Evangelical minister, and the videos are featured in an article in the Huffington Post.

First Days, Official Victimhood, Et Cetera
So far, I’ve survived the first couple of days of class. It’s not like it’s my first day, as I’ve done several semesters of teaching community college courses. I’ve been busy with paperwork, student writing samples, and putting in lots of duplicating requests, but I’ve also decided to apply some lessons I learned the hard way from previous semesters.

Year of the Ox: Welcome to 4706
Late Happy Chinese New Year’s from ShindoTV.
It’s always nice to note the passing of the Chinese New Year. For me, this often feels more like the time of renewal than January 1 mainly because the Gregorian New Year’s still within the Twelve Days of Christmas, and Chinese New Year’s almost a month removed from it. I’ve also been working on a variety of habit changes closer to Sunday as well.

San Diego TWineUp, 23 January 2009
Taking a picture of someone taking a picture in my direction.
My Friday night was marked by the San Diego TwineUp, a small scale local Twitter meetup with big party energy. Rob, AKA Downtown Rob, of WebWizards was generous with hosting at his downtown home (which has a fabulous south view), providing a lot of the wine, and having Rock Band set up for group fun and alternating with the iPod video playlists for ambient background noise. I’ve been to most of the TWineUps, save one, since it started, and this night’s event had the highest turnout so far. The first one had only four people, including Rob and yours truly, and this one had about 10-15 people in all. I took lots of pictures pictures and sent much of them to my Twitpic account via my iPhone. Here are some of them, along some from another camera I brought to the party and a few taken by Rich of Rich and Creamy.

Battlestar Galactica: A Disquiet Follows My Soul
So Say We All! Warning: Spoilers Ahead. This video, courtesy of Sci Fi Channel and Hulu, is temporarily available for you to catch up.
God is dead? Not yet, as Baltar goes on a disturbing rant in his sermon.
Last week’s BSG episode opened the Final half season with a bang. “A Disquiet That Follows My Soul” has less immediate dramatic impact; instead, it’s a a deeply brooding story that sets up events to come. With the disillusionment following the discovery of Earth nuked with little sign of life, Roslin tunes out her presidency and her health, Tom Zarek blocks Adama‘s efforts to deepen the alliance with the dissident Cylons, and Gaeta becomes more and more of a malcontent. On an ancilliary note, Baltar‘s preaching takes a much more cynical turn.
