After the election is over…

Can I have Obama’s cheerleaders? If they could get a man who has really said nothing this far, think of what they can do for ShindoTV. I’d love to have such PR. Come up with your most abstract, vaguest slogans and make me sound as fabulous as I really am.

Disclaimer: This post is strictly humorous and should not be taken as anti-Obama speech.

Just a few photos today.

I’m stealing this photo post idea today from Chris.

All pics photographed with my handy, dandy iPhone.

Not dove love at all. These pigeons are fighting with the fattest one over food he has in his beak.

In the afternoon, I ducked into Pasha‘s, a new Turkish restaurant in Hillcrest, to get away from the traffic. I ordered this tasty lunch and the Ayran, a yogurt drink. Not my usual fare.

Update on ShindoTV

Resplendissime 1

Earlier yesterday evening, I was at the Kinko’s in Hazard Center making photo copies of these lovely images, which will soon appear in Resplendence. I guess I could photograph all the drawings myself, but I’m not a good art reproduction photographer. I just want things to look good when the series launches in September. Now, all I need to do is copy the color images, scan them all, and I will be set.

I’ve been enjoying my iPhone, doing almost everything but talk. Actually, that’s not completely true, but I’m not having a gabfest either. I’ve had fun with the camera, taken plenty of advantage of the data feature such as Internet anywhere (almost), keeping up with Twitter (through Twitterific), and keeping myself out of e-mail bankruptcy. Plus, ya gotta love the klunky Facebook app.

I’ve been teaching over the summer. I just finished teaching a paragraph skills course at the urban college, and I will finish teaching at the language school this week. I’m tired, but I don’t have much of a chance to breathe, as faculty development is this week at two community colleges where I teach and school starts next week. For the most part part, I think I’ve started a pretty good habit of keeping confidentiality with the classes, even if some situations make great stories or seem blog-worthy.

Overall, it’s better this way. I do have opinions on all kinds of things and sometimes it’s easier to simply rant them out here because I’m much more of a reserved person in real life. Perhaps it’s better if that real life personality translated to my online self. But, disclosure is so much fun!

In any case, I don’t want to be that teacher whose blog gets used against them in a student grievance, nor do I want some boss to punish me for what I really think. Plus, I’ve already expressed my fear, anger, and frustration sometime ago about this and that’s enough.

Now onto something lighter. In a comment to my last post, Chris encouraged me to jump on the 12 of 12 meme. I’ve been doing pretty good about avoiding memes and getting friends into them. I’ve more or less come to the conclusion that friends don’t let friends do memes. God knows how much of this crap I’ve gotten in my inbox over the years before the memes mutated to the blogosphere. Also, I haven’t circulated the hot YouTubers vids; they have enough help without me. Chris Crocker and Barats and Bereta are going to have to find some other people to do their dirty work for them. 12 of 12, though, seems like there’s no harm, just taking 12 photos on the 12th of each month.

12 photos in one day for me is nothing. Anyone who’s a contact of mine on Flickr can attest to that. I have days of photo overload. All I’ll say right now is I’ll think about it. Mokusatsu*

Saturday in Photos

Some more photos, which I took a ton of on my iPhone. We’ve been having mild weather here in San Diego, which is unusual for August.

On Saturday, I met up with Brian and Sharon at the Tourmaline in PB* (Pacific Beach). Here’s a photo of the water:
Idyllic California Shore

An interesting arrangement of kelp in the water:

Afterwards, we were off to La Torta, a Mexican deli further south in PB. Food porn!

Then there was a visit to La Jolla Cove. At the Children’s Pool, or Casa Beach, some people went swimming there and hung out on the shore even though that’s an area where the seals like to beach (not things I’d do there):
Stupid people clearing out

It was cloudy late in the day and the horizon looked too much like one of those motivational posters. I’ll entitle it “Optimism.”

The Pink Berry recently opened in Hillcrest. Good frozen yogurt, but a place of cute overload:
Cutesy Wine Corkers

My last thing I had to do was stop by the Apple Store to pick up my computer. While in Fashion Valley, I saw this brilliant window display in front of Saks:

*San Diegans often refer to Pacific Beach as PB. Definitely part of the local dialect.

iHunk or I-Hunk: take your pick

Just a little silliness to get through Monday morning:

Which would you pick: iHunk or I-Hunk?

The iHunk – sighted while I was waiting for my Genius Bar appointment on Friday:

or the I-Hunk, an image I found on Flickr:

I’d take the iHunk over the I-Hunk anyday.

My new boyfriend

As you may know, I have a new relationship in my life and it is with my iPhone. A friend mentioned in an e-mail that I have satisfied my Apple fetish for now. He has also said to a mutual friend of ours that this device is my new boyfriend. Oh god, what a high maintenance one it is.

Making It Work: iPhone Couture

Getting the iPhone is one thing. Anyone can get one, provided that they have the right plan and a great deal of patience. The next step is to get a cover, and anyone can buy one. There are so many choices, especially if one has some money to throw away to accessorize. There are gummy protectors, leather holsters, and even eco-friendly, granola-ey sheaths. However, not everyone can make their own covers.

On Tuesday night, I set out to do a Project Runway of my own. My materials were a Geoffrey Beene necktie and a Geoffrey Beene dress shirt. My budget was $0 since I was recycling some fashion that fell into disuse. I could hear Tim Gunn telling me to “Make it Work.”

Of course, I had a few ideas. While I had a great time destroying a tie, I then turned my attention to a dress shirt to make a soft lining. I also thought some elements of the shirt could make clever features on the iPhone sheath. However, in the end, I settled on a more minimal design. The tie’s fabric can do the talking without any competing elements.

With the lining, I made it work. It compliments the shell instead of competing with it.

No machines were used; everything was stitched together by hand. A steam iron (along with an ironing board) to smooth out the fabrics, a sharp air of scissors, and some pins to hold the fabric together helped me a great deal. Making sure the lining was integrated and the seams not showing was the most challenging part.

Why did I do it? For several reasons: I’m too cheap to buy a sheath and I like creating things. While I don’t have granola tastes, I like the idea of recycling fashion. Plus, the final result is something I’d use. It looks nice on its own and it doesn’t look out of place in a suit’s breast pocket. Very dandy indeed.

Finally! Got the iPhone!

Yesterday, I finally got the iPhone after waiting for two Fridays and a few days. I’ve downloaded the wordpress app and I’ve written this entry on it. Tapping ok a glass screen takes a little getting use to. Sometime, a bit later, I’ll have to do a proper blog entry with a picture of my blog on my phone. Plus, I started to go Project Runway on one of my ties. I’m making a cover for it. Fun times.

Midnight on the Quick

I have not been hiding. I have been really busy for the most part and I haven’t had much energy to do a post. Occasionally, I’ve Twittered or commented on a blog post, but that’s it. Also, I blog and do all those wonderful things on my time.*

The one thing of note I’ll mention is that I ordered an iPhone last Friday and I’ve been in iLimbo for a week. Hopefully, I can muster the enthusiasm to take a picture of it like I did with the store models last year. OMG, for some of us, our blogs looked so different last summer!

*Current/Prospective Employers, etc: I do not blog, Twitter, Flickr, or do any other online activities on the clock. If you’re reading this, you need to get your asses back to work. Also, don’t think you know me after reading any post.
